  1. Well put! I really like this presentation of the concept for its simple logic and non-reliance on technical terminology. Everyone understands the terms price and interest rate, but few seem to recognize the mathematical correlation until you point it out. Combining this simple realization with a single chart of the 10-year UST yield over the last 40 years generates a whole mountain of clarity.

  2. Do you think the nominal gain on sale of shares in a long-term holding breaks down into three components as follows?:
    gain due to asset value enhancement;
    gain due to discounted present value enhancement of future dividend stream;
    gain due to (CPI) inflation of the currency in which the gain is denominated.
